Midwifery

Midwife means “With Woman” and that is the practice Kate has been involved in for the past 30 years. With a Master’s degree from Yale in 1981 Kate began practicing at the Fair Haven Community Health Center in New Haven CT. Working with teens, women of childbearing age and then menopausal women has given Kate a wealth of experience. Serving the underserved has brought depth and breath to a vibrant midwifery practice.

Women’s Health affords an opportunity to experience all the facets of issues that women in the USA face, from adolescents to the elderly, with specific needs and hopes and dreams. Being a midwife is about delivering babies and so much more. There are considerations for the risks of being female in our culture. Family planning, domestic violence, heart disease, obesity, depression, housing, relationships, parenting are just a few issues facing women. All of these issues effect women’s health.

The Fair Haven Midwives have developed a group prenatal care model that includes mindfulness and yoga as a part of their inner city practice.  It is open to all patients and their families who seek care at our site. The classes are offered in English and Spanish.

Kate is available to speak with groups about women’s health issues including stress and mental health.
